Whether you are an expert or a novice, the history of the <strong>Speedmaster<\/strong> It&#039;s a legend worth knowing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>FROM THE TRACKS TO THE MOON<\/strong>                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Born in 1957, the Speedmaster was initially designed as a racing chronograph. Its main characteristics were readability, robustness, and reliability, essential qualities for a watch intended for high-speed competition. But the Speedmaster&#039;s destiny changed radically in 1965, when the <strong>NASA<\/strong> selected this model as the official watch for space missions. After subjecting several models to extreme tests (extremely high and low temperatures, shock, vacuum, humidity, and corrosion), NASA chose the Speedmaster 105.003, the only one to pass all the demanding resistance tests. Starting on March 23, 1965, the Omega Speedmaster 105.003 was worn by astronauts Virgil Grissom and John Young during a space mission, becoming the official watch of US space missions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>APOLLO 11: THE LEGENDARY MOMENT<\/strong>                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     The pinnacle of the Speedmaster&#039;s history came with the Apollo 11 mission. On July 20, 1969, <strong>Buzz Aldrin<\/strong> he wore the\u2019<strong>Omega Speedmaster Professional<\/strong> as he became the second man to walk on the Moon. This event consecrated the <strong>Speedmaster<\/strong> as the first watch to be worn on the lunar surface, an indelible sign of its connection to the conquest of space. At that historic moment, Neil Armstrong, although also wearing a Speedmaster, left his watch in the lunar module, using it as a backup for the onboard clock that had stopped working. This made Aldrin the only astronaut to have his own Speedmaster on the Moon. Today, watches <strong>Armstrong<\/strong> e <strong>Young<\/strong> are exhibited at the National Museum of Aeronautics and Space of the <strong>Smithsonian<\/strong>.
